This help guide covers the basic procedure of selecting genes and adding them to your collection for data analysis and visualization.
You can select the gene tab to browse our database of genes. There are a variety of search filters which you can use to aid your selection of genes./ for example, if you are primarily interesting in studying mouse genes, you can filter across our databased genes for those specific only to mice, conversely you can filter for only human genes.
Advancing Search Filtering
You can additionally apply a second selection filter: if you would like to target human genes which have been shown to be related to addiction, you can filter our database for the genes specific to human genes, and then apply a filter for those relating to addiction. The set of genes returned to you by the search results will be the human genes relating to addiction
Precompiled Gene Lists
If you have already have a list of genes, then you may want to opt for a bulk search, using our bulk search text submission field, or optionally, through a file upload mechanism.
- Requirements:
- Your file format must be a .txt file.
- Your genes must be comma separated.
- Genes are specified either by gene symbol, entrez id, or optionally (though not optimally) by gene name
Your Gene Collection
You can add genes to your 'cart' by clicking on the "select" button in your search results. Genes can similarly be removing by clicking the "remove" button. At any time you can see the number of human or mouse genes you have collected by looking at the top right corner of the screen. The small number which appears next to the mouse icon displays your current number of collected mouse genes, the same applies to your collected human genes.
Advancing Gene Collection Viewing
You may view your entire selection of human or mouse genes by clicking on your mouse or human collection icon. This will take you to a page where you can view your collection in its entirety. You may also remove any unwanted genes on this page (or you may remove them by clicking the minus button in the search results, though this may be a more time-consuming and less efficient way to go about it).
